About visual journaling:
"Visual journaling is the soul made visible."  It combines the practice of journal writing with colour, image and texture, making it a multi-sensory experience that deepens relaxation, learning and transformation.  This makes visual journaling a powerful tool for safe creative exploration, self-care and healing.  In my workshops we focus on the processes of creative play and internal dialogue.  The final work is a by-product.  The process is always bigger than the page.  In visual journaling, the terms  “beginner”,  “advanced”, “wrong” or “right” do not apply.  No artmaking experience is needed. The pressure is off - there are no mistakes. In fact, if one is willing to follow the trail, perceived mistakes usually lead to wonderful discoveries.  Creative expression, stress release and deeper self-understanding are the goals.

During the retreat we will be:
  • Creating visual journal pages that are authentic expressions of our emotions and internal dialogue.
  • Guided by practical demonstration every step of the way.
  • Making a handbound journal using a variety of fibres and fabrics.
  • Working introspectively while playing with colour, image, texture and words.
  • Creating 2 journal spreads in a fibre journal using collage, paint, typography, stencils, texture pastes, words and eco-dyeing and examining the notion of weaving as metaphor for chronicling our own stories - past, present and future.
  • Doing “extreme journaling” by creating a flag book that can also be hung as bunting flags.
  • Embellishing your flag book pages using topographical themes as tools to excavate dreams.
  • Working at a relaxed pace while de-stressing and having fun.
  • A maximum of 10 attendees.
Included:
